How to Successfully Balance Full-time Studies and Freelancing

As a full-time student and a freelancer, it can be challenging to create a balance between you academic pursuits and work. Nonetheless, with some proper organization and planning, you can successfully handle both roles and excel too. Here are a few tips on how to juggle as a full-time student and a freelancer:

1.    1Set reasonable and realistic goals

Being a full-time student and a freelancer can make you prone to burn out. To stay motivated and focused, it is essential to set reasonable goals for both your freelance work and academic tasks. You can start by breaking down your goals into manageable and smaller tasks which helps you prioritize them based on importance and urgency.

2.
2. Communicate with you clients

Setting reasonable deadlines that work for both you and your client is essential. This helps you not to work under pressure, which may jeopardize the quality of your work. Clear and concise communication is important when it comes to freelancing. Always communicate with them prior if you will be available or not. Do not take up more jobs if you know you will have a hard time delivering – as this may ruin your reputation.

3.       3Create a schedule

Balancing multiple responsibilities can be daunting. A clear schedule allows you to create a routine which ensures none of the areas are slacking. You can begin with identifying specific times you need to set aside for your freelance work and your school work. A schedule allows you to know what needs to be done and at what time. When you start your day you get to save time because you are not wasting the early productive minutes trying to figure out what to do.

4.       4. Create time for ‘you’

To maintain a productive workflow, you need to be of right mind. Spare some time to work on your mental and physical health. Create time for relaxation, journaling, eating healthy and making time to work out. This package allows you to perform at your best in both your freelance and academic tasks.

5.      5.  Stay Organized

Staying organized is important when trying to achieve anything. When juggling between freelancing and your studies, you need to have a plan on how you handle tasks. Use tools such project management software like Trello, productivity apps like Asana and Google calendar to keep track of your to-do lists, appointments and deadlines.

The Bottom Line

Balancing a full blown career while still pursuing your education can be challenging, but it’s not impossible. If you have the correct approach and mindset, clear communication, staying organized, setting reasonable goals, prioritizing yourself and creating a schedule, you can have both a successful career and exemplary grades in your education.
